Customer Service Week is October 7 - 11

Does your staff know you appreciate them?

What are you doing to let your employees know much you value and appreciate their service? Every employee, in one way or another, impacts your customers. So whether they interact directly with customers or not, they deserve appreciation for all of their efforts.

Here are 10 simple and inexpensive ideas to help you celebrate and appreciate one of your greatest assets . . . your staff!

  • Mail a personalized note to each of your employees at their home thanking them for their hard work and dedication. If possible, acknowledge special accomplishments, length with company, or anything that personalizes your message of appreciation.
  • If your company has a newsletter, print a thank-you letter from the president, CEO or department VP thanking your employees for their efforts.
  • Hold an internal open house. Encourage departments to visit other departments so everyone can see what it takes to make the company run. Every department, job and employee is valuable!
  • Surprise your employees with a small “gift” each day of Customer Service Week. Small gifts are a great way to let them know you care. Preparing the gifts the night before everyone is surprised in the morning makes it especially fun. Some ideas are:
  •

    a. A donut on everyone’s desk

    b. A gift certificate to a movie

    c. A small candy bar

    d. A balloon inflated and tied to their chair

    e. A gift certificate for an ice-cream cone

  • Have a “Trading Places” day when senior management spends an hour or two on the phones while CSRs supervise them. This exchange can have benefits far greater than expected!
  • Distribute special awards or certificates of appreciation. Acknowledge outstanding customer service, length of time with company, special victories. Acknowledge those who took a risk even if it didn’t bring the expected results. Reward those who try.
  • Decorate your office with posters, banners and balloons to create a festive atmosphere.
  •
  • If appropriate, encourage your staff to decorate their cubicles or workstations. Make it fun!
  • Focus on exceptional customer service reps by giving them a special reward and/or a mention in your company newsletter.
  • Name a “Customer Service Rep of the Day” or “Employee of the Day” for each day during the Customer Service Week. Send an email to announce your winner every day. Ask them to present some of their success tips and techniques at your next staff meeting.
